Having a car comes with some responsibilities. You don't just buy a car and end it there. In the process of owning the car means maintaining it properly. And to be able to do that, you must know the different parts of your car and its functions.

One of the most important part of a vehicle is the engine system. It is like the heart of th car, without it, the other parts would be useless. If ever your Chevrolet pickup truck encounters a problem in your engine system, you might want to check your valve cover.

The Chevrolet pickup valve cover, as the name suggests, covers the valve train. The valve train consists of rocker arms, valve springs, push rods, lifters and cam. Oil is pumped up through the push rods and dispersed underneath the valve cover, which keeps the rocker arms lubricated. Holes are located in various places in the engine head so that the oil recirculates back down to the oil pan. Because of this, the valve cover must be oil-tight, for it is prone to be the source of oil leaks. The valve cover is often distorted on older cars because the valve cover screws were over-tightened, bending the valve cover. This happens because the valve cover is made of very thin sheet metal and cannot withstand the force of an over-tightened bolt.

One way of determining if your valve cover is bent is by removing the gasket and putting the valve cover back on to the cylinder head. When the valve cover and cylinder head come into contact, the cover should sit flat. If it rocks, it is bent. Cast aluminum valve covers cannot be straightened, they need to be replaced. Sheet metal valve covers can be straightened. A symptom of a bent or leaking valve cover is a pinching of the valve cover gasket. This means that the gasket is sealing one area and not sealing another area. This condition produces a leak, meaning oil could be leaking down the side of the engine.

Some valve covers are hard to access, because they are covered with other engine parts. Chronic valve cover leakage can sometimes be fixed by using two gaskets glued together instead of using just one.

The Chevrolet pickup valve covers are usually made up of plastic or composite materials. These kinds of valve covers are typically seen on some relatively new vehicles. In fact,, valve covers started as metal-made products but due to some disadvantages, traditional metal valve covers were soon replaced by plastic ones. To further enhance the appearance of these valve covers, specialty chrome designs, billet aluminum and even carbon fiber designs are made available to the buying public. You can also sometimes see valve covers that bear a logo,or other designs put into their surface.

When you have checked and maintained the valve cover for your Chevrolet, its time to check if your pick up can handle the performance you want it to have. You can do this by replacing the Chevrolet pickup ring and pinion gear set.

Ring and Pinion gears are the differential's critical point of power transfer. The differential is a device that splits the engine torque two ways, allowing each output to spin at a different speed. The differential essentially has three jobs: To aim the engine power at the wheels, To act as the final gear reduction in the vehicle, slowing the rotational speed of the transmission one final time before it hits the wheels, To transmit the power to the wheels while allowing them to rotate at different speeds.

The Chevrolet pickup ring and pinion gear set is suitable for street and off road use. It can make your engine have better acceleration and quicker quarter mile times. It can easily increase torque with a ratio change for greater pulling or take off power from a dead start. If you maintain these essential truck parts, your Chevy pickup will be performing at its peak for a long time.
